Can BlackCloak remove my information from the Dark Web?
Firstly, removing data from the dark web is not possible (even for most law enforcement entities), as there is no central authority or moderator for this content. Additionally, data is often traded, sold and exchanges hands frequently, making containment or scrubbing incredibly difficult. (You can compare it to someone buying a billboard and posting your email / number there, for hundreds of passing eyes to see it and possibly take it.)
BlackCloak’s approach to dealing with this risk comes in two parts:
The first response is to remove this information from Data Brokers, who obtain lists of this kind of personal information and resell them for profit. Here is the list of data brokers we currently remove from. Because information is regularly leaked and re-leaked, we scan and re-scan for your information to remove.
In the second layer of response, the BlackCloak team will also provide security reviews to ensure the recommended security measures are implemented to lessen or mitigate the risks of PII exposure completely. During these reviews we can make sure you have MFA (multi-factor identification) on your critical accounts (banks/finances, email, social media, etc) and that you are using strong passwords over secure internet connections.
This allows us to contain the spread of information and create guards against a range of possible attacks. Should the client fall victim to identity theft or targeted cyber threats, our security team is able to respond to issues catering to each distinct scenario.
