A Reminder to Monitor Who Your Children Talk to on Social Media

Bad actors are always looking to find ways to obtain valuable assets online, whether it's personal information, login credentials and even money.

Threat actors will target just about anyone to achieve their goals, and that includes young children. Unfortunately, social media gives scammers the ability to easily communicate with minors, allowing them to manipulate them into turning over important information.

It's why you need to ensure you take the steps needed to protect your children when they are online.

Measures / actions

  1. Educate your children about the dangers of talking to people on social media, especially if they do not know the person they are talking to. It's also important to tell them never to hand over personal data or login credentials to anyone they talk to online. Our knowledge base features carefully selected educational tools—from interactive online games to hands-on activity sheets—that help children learn cybersecurity while having fun."

  2. Monitor your child's online activity and ensure their accounts are equipped with the proper privacy and security settings. Contact the BlackCloak Concierge team if you need assistance navigating these settings.

  3. Look at parental controls for any online platform or application your child uses, and consider setting limits on screen time if needed.
