BlackCloak Cybersecurity Alert | Update your Ubiquiti/UniFi home network equipment
Ubiquiti recently patched several serious vulnerabilities affecting UniFi devices, including routers, gateways, security cameras, and the UniFi OS software that runs on them. If any of your home network equipment is made by Ubiquiti or runs UniFi (this includes devices like the UniFi Dream Machine, UniFi Dream Router, or UniFi Protect cameras), we recommend updating as soon as practical.
Note: this is equipment you own and manage directly through your own Ubiquiti account, so BlackCloak cannot apply these updates on your behalf. The steps below explain how to apply the updates, and we're glad to walk you through it if anything is unclear.
Confirm you have Ubiquiti/UniFi equipment. Check for the Ubiquiti or UniFi name printed on your router, gateway, or camera hardware, or check whether you manage your home network through the UniFi app.
Open the UniFi app, or go to unifi.ui.com in a browser, and sign in with your Ubiquiti account.
Select your console (your Dream Machine, Dream Router, or equivalent) from the dashboard.
Look for an available update. The dashboard shows a banner or notification if a UniFi OS update is available. Applications like UniFi Protect or UniFi Talk, if you use them, are updated separately under the same console's Applications section.
Apply the update and allow the device to restart. This briefly interrupts internet access, so it's worth doing at a time you're not relying on it.
Turn on automatic updates, if the option is available, so future patches like this apply without a manual check.
If you're not sure whether any of your equipment is affected, or you'd like a second set of eyes while you go through these steps, reach out to your concierge team and we'll walk through it with you.
